  • What is CONVENIA?

CONVENIA is an injectable antibiotic that is given by your veterinarian to treat common bacterial skin infections in dogs and cats. It is part of the group of antibiotics called cephalosporins.
  • What types of infections or illnesses does CONVENIA treat?

CONVENIA treats common bacterial skin infections in cats and dogs.
  • What is the dosage of CONVENIA, or how is it dosed?

CONVENIA is given by your veterinarian as an injection under the skin. The dosage is based on the pet's weight.
  • How much does CONVENIA cost?

The cost of CONVENIA will vary based on the size of your pet. Contact your veterinarian.
  • How long does it take CONVENIA to start working in a dog? In a cat?

Every pet and every infection is different. Peak blood levels of CONVENIA are seen within 2.0 hours in the cat1 and 6.2 hours in the dog.2 This means that CONVENIA can start killing the bacteria quickly. However, this is not when you would expect to see a difference in the skin. Based on the severity of the infection, your veterinarian is best able to share that expectation with you.
  • How long does CONVENIA last/stay in the system of a dog? A cat?

As with any medication, it takes some time for the body to completely eliminate a drug. A drug's half-life is the time it takes to eliminate half of the drug from the body. The half-life of CONVENIA is 6.9 days in cats and 5.5 days in dogs.3 After this time, the drug continues to decline in concentration and could exist in small amounts for up to 65 days.3 This does not mean that CONVENIA works for this long or, if there is a side effect, that the side effect will last that long. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Zoetis™ at 888-ZOETIS1 (888-963-8471).
  • How often can my dog/cat receive a shot/injection of CONVENIA?

In studies, 1 injection of CONVENIA was the equivalent of 14 days of orally dosed antibiotics.* Your veterinarian will decide how many injections your pet needs.
  • Have there been any reported adverse reactions to CONVENIA?

Allergic reactions to CONVENIA are possible. The main side effects reported with CONVENIA are vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and decreased appetite. These are uncommon and similar to other antibiotics. Zoetis takes its responsibility to collect information on side effects very seriously. We have a call center where you can report any adverse reactions or ask any questions; please call Zoetis at 888-ZOETIS1 (888-963-8471).
